GROWING GOJI IN A COLD CLIMATE - TIPS AND SECRETS
Today, the main supplier of goji berry products is China. More than 95000 tons of berries are harvested there annually. Recently, goji has also been grown worldwide as a garden plant, and seedlings can be purchased from nurseries in many countries.
GOJI - FROM SOWING TO THE FIRST BERRY
Goji seeds can be easily found on sale today, but I preferred to take out the seeds from the dried berries of the Yellow Amber variety, especially since there are a lot of seeds in each and it was not difficult to get them - I just pre-soaked the fruits in clean water.
Sowed the seeds in February on the same day as the tomatoes, slightly buried in a moist substrate, seedlings appeared in a week. She put the seedlings on a sunny windowsill, looked after the standard: she watered, fed, after the appearance of a pair of true leaves she dived. I did not notice any special problems during cultivation.
The seedlings were planted in the ground in mid-May.
Part - in a suburban dacha, the rest - on a personal plot next to the house. For the convenience of harvesting, the bushes were planted in two parallel rows. The distance between the rows is about half a meter, between the bushes in a row - about a meter.
I didn’t know that it was desirable to cover goji seedlings in the first year, and in the spring of the next year I discovered that absolutely all seedlings had completely (under the root) frozen out in the country house. In the city, the non-lignified tips of the shoots were only slightly frozen near the bushes, so I decided to grow this crop only in the city garden, and I no longer experiment with the dacha.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE
Last season, my goji bushes turned five years old, and they literally overwhelmed me with a crop! At the moment, the bushes have grown to 2,5-3 m. They have very beautiful thin bluish-green leaves resembling sea buckthorn foliage, the stems are thin, arcuately curved. The bark of the branches is light brown.
ABOUT FLOWERING AND FRUITING
Adult goji bushes bloom from May to October, before frost, so I harvest all season: At the same time, you can see both flowers and ripened bright orange berries on the bush, which resemble tiny elongated cherry tomatoes. The length of one is 1-3 cm. There is a lot of juice, pulp and small seeds inside.

A LITTLE ABOUT GOJI CARE
Goji does not require special care in the middle lane. I don’t cut or form bushes, but only tie flexible stems to a support. I water regularly with an automatic watering system. The soil in the area is fertile, so I do not apply fertilizer. As for the shoots, during this time only a couple of young bushes appeared at a distance of 2-3 m from the mother bushes.
FACT: GOJI BERRIES SHOULD BE CAREFULLY PICKED: LONG SHARP SPIKES ARE LOCATED ON THE STROKE (MASTERIALLY IN THE LOWER PART).

GROWING GOJI - COMMENTARY OF A SPECIALIST
When growing goji, one must responsibly approach the purchase of a seedling - purchase plants adapted to the local climate. The best varieties for the middle lane are Lhasa, New Big, Sweet Amber, Shanghai Express, Big Berry. Goji should be planted in a well-lit corner of the garden. You can - in the fall (August-November) or spring (March-May). The latter option is recommended for cooler areas, so that the bush has time to get stronger before the onset of cold weather.
Pits for planting seedlings (50x50x50 cm) should be prepared in advance so that the earth has time to settle. Coarse-grained sand should be poured at the bottom of the planting pit, then half filled with a mixture of fertile loose soil and humus (1: 1).
After that, add to the soil 150 g of double superphosphate and 30 g of potassium sulfate or 1 tbsp. wood ash. Dig everything carefully.
It is important to place the seedling in the pit strictly vertically, raising the root collar to ground level. Mulch the trunk circle with peat or humus. In the future, the plant should be regularly watered and sometimes fed with organic matter.
