Cherry plum A gift to St. Petersburg - a hybrid tree. Hybrid plants of cherry plum often lack a central conductor, therefore the crown is better to form a cup-shaped shape.
To form a simple bowl near a planted tree, three adjacent main skeletal branches are laid without a conductor. The height of the trunk can be any, the branches should not depart at a very sharp angle. Skeletal branches are shortened from the first years to cause good awakening of the kidneys. If this is not done, the crown becomes ankle-shaped.
You can also form a crown according to the type of an improved bowl, which consists of two tiers of skeletal branches. This one is easy to take care of.
The first tier is formed from two adjacent branches located in the same plane. The third is laid on the conductor after 20-30 cm approximately in the same plane, after which the conductor is cut out with transfer to this branch.
But there are cherry plum varieties that have a pronounced central conductor. In this case, a sparsely-tiered crown is formed with a bole height of 40-60 cm. Such a crown consists of 6-8 skeletal branches, which are arranged in three tiers with a distance of 50-60 cm between them.
The first (lower) tier consists of 3-4 branches with approximately equal divergence angles along the crown projection. The distance between the branches along the height of the trunk is 10-15 cm. They should depart from the trunk at an angle of at least 45 °.
In the second tier, 2-3 branches are left, located in the gaps between the branches of the first tier in the projection of the crown. The third tier is laid from 1-2 branches, after which the central conductor is cut out with transfer to the lateral branch of the last branch.
