THREE HARVESTS OF GARDEN STRAWBERRY WITH NEUTRAL DAYLIGHT

More and more experienced gardeners are looking to replace their regular strawberries with a daylight neutral berry that produces three crop waves per season.

Plants from which we get fragrant berries once a year, in June, belong to strawberries of a short daylight hours. Such varieties lay fruit buds at a time when the day is getting shorter - in August of the previous year.

Thanks to the experiments of breeders, strawberries of neutral daylight hours (NSD) appeared: bushes continuously, regardless of the length of the day, lay flower buds throughout the season.

In the spring, NSD bushes bloom along with the usual early varieties, and in early summer they give the first wave of harvest. After harvesting, these plants again lay new buds and put forward flower stalks. The second wave of the harvest falls on the end of July and the first half of August. The third time the berries appear in September.

THERE IS A NUANCE: A YEAR IN THREE

NSD strawberries are planted in the garden in the same way as ordinary varieties. But this miracle berry can be kept in one place for only one season, because due to continuous fruiting by autumn it grows old (like three-year-old bushes). Therefore, every year in August a new bed is planted from the mustache, and the old bushes are removed after the last harvest in September.

CARE

Three harvests per season take a lot of strength from NSD strawberries. Therefore, pay special attention to top dressing:

during the period of tying berries, use potash fertilizer (according to instructions);

during fruiting, carry out yeast top dressing: dilute 10 g of raw yeast in 100 liters of warm water, leave for a day, and then pour 0,5 liters of solution under each bush.

Also, do not forget to regularly water the plantation, remove weeds and loosen the soil. If frosts are expected in May or September (during the first and third flowering), cover the bed with spunbond.

HARVEST Tricks

To increase the second and third crops of NSD strawberries, in June it is possible to remove the flower stalks of the first wave from it. At this time, ordinary strawberries are enough.
