Asian varieties or la-hybrids of lilies for the middle zone - cultivation and care
NOBLE LILIES IN YOUR FLOWER FLOWER – TO BLOW LUXURIOUSLY...
RџSЂRё When choosing a lily variety, choose Asian varieties or La hybrids, they are more adapted to our winters in comparison with eastern varieties and do not require shelter.
The main thing when buying lily planting material is the absence of spots and rot on the bulbs. The roots of the bulbs should not be dried. I plant lilies in the fall (in September), this is the key to their earlier flowering in the summer. Before planting, I pickle the bulbs for 20-30 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate (5 g per 10 liters of water).
Lilies grow in one place for up to 5 years, so choose your planting site carefully. The place should be sunny, slightly shaded. The soil should be well-drained and loose.
When choosing a place to plant lilies, you need to take into account the fact that they do not tolerate stagnant water. I add humus to the bed - half a bucket per 1 m2, and from mineral fertilizers superphosphate, ash (100 g each) and potassium sulfate (40 g), also per 1 m2 of bed. I dig it up, compact it and start planting. I plant lilies in 2-3 rows, the distance between rows and bulbs is about 15-20 cm, and the planting depth of the average bulb is 20 cm.
I make holes with a special device for planting bulbous plants. I cut off the roots of the onion a little, put them in the holes and sprinkle soil on top. If autumn is dry, you can water a little so that the bulbs take root, but do not sprout prematurely. At the end of October, mulch the bed with fallen leaves or sawdust. Further care will be required in the spring.
Caring for lilies consists of regular weeding, loosening the soil, fertilizing and watering. It is very important to maintain the optimal water regime of the soil - to avoid waterlogging and stagnation of moisture, otherwise the roots of the bulbs will rot. Lack of moisture is also undesirable - the flowers turn out small. I water the lilies at the root in the morning.
To ensure that the lilies bloom well, I feed them three times during the season. I carry out the first feeding in early spring: I dilute 30 g of ammonium nitrate in 10 liters of water. This is the consumption per 1 m2.
The second feeding is necessary during the budding period: I dilute 50 g of nitrophoska in 10 liters of water. The expense is the same.
After flowering, for better ripening of the bulbs, I carry out a third feeding: 30 g of potassium sulfate and 40 g of superphosphate are diluted in 10 liters of water. Irrigation consumption is similar.
Also, during the formation of buds, I additionally spray with “Ovary” or “Flower Bud” preparations.
Lilies look great in bouquets. And so that the bulbs are not damaged when cutting and the lilies also bloom magnificently next year, there are several rules. I cut the first bouquets at the end of June. The best time to cut flowers is early morning or late evening. It is safer to break off the flower stalks, since a knife can easily infect a lily with viral diseases. After cutting, leave the stem longer so that the bulb receives adequate nutrition. After cutting, remove the stamens from the buds - this way the bouquet will last longer.
If lilies are to be transplanted, then in September I dig them up with a pitchfork. I inspect the bulbs and reject damaged ones. And then neutralization and planting of planting material according to the same scheme as indicated above.
