Black “soot” appeared on the branches and trunks of apple trees. It grows especially strongly on weakened trees and after pruning. Neighbors in the garden simply cut down diseased trees and burn them. I managed to cure the Welsey variety with Bordeaux mixture. But other apple trees got sick. Is prevention possible?

Yes, the description of the disease is similar to black cancer. Trees must be treated at the very beginning of the disease. Use a garden knife to trim the affected areas down to the wood, taking 1-2 cm of healthy bark. Disinfect with copper sulfate (300 g per 10 liters of water) or 1% Bordeaux mixture. Then cover the affected area with garden varnish. To limit the spread of spores (after all, this is a fungal disease), use fungicides based on difenoconazole and copper oxychloride (CHOM).

It is equally important to follow all the rules of agricultural technology so that the trees grow well and bear fruit and are not damaged by frost. Beginning in the fall, whiten the trunks and bases of large branches with lime or special paint. Cut out branches affected by cancer, collect mummified fruits and fallen leaves and burn them. And keep an eye on the trees. What if a new outbreak appears?
